Resideo academy training offers valuable support to women in the industry
Committed to fostering a diverse workforce, which embraces our differences to create an inclusive work environment, we’re delighted to report that our first Heating Controls Wiring course for Women in Industry, proved a huge success.
Developed to offer female installers an opportunity to come together with likeminded professionals, the all-day event, which was held in October, offered a platform for attendees to further their knowledge of wiring systems, electrical safety, and installation best practice, while also offering a valuable networking opportunity for those in attendance.
Held at our office in Winnersh, the face-to-face course, led by Steve Mist, Technical Support Team Lead at Resideo, and supported by Sarah Hobbs – Resideo's Business Development Manager - provided a welcoming environment for women in the industry to learn more about common central heating control systems, including Honeywell Home S and Y plans, best practice installation, right through to effective fault diagnosis.
Installer feedback
With fewer women considering a career as a heating or plumbing engineer, at Resideo we’re committed to playing our part in promoting diversity and the career advancement of women in the industry. The Heating Controls Wiring course for Women in Industry, was our first female-only training session, and received a great response from all attendees.
When asked what they found most interesting, one attendee commented: “Speaking to other women in the trade about experiences and learning about the different work we have completed, comparing jobs, and learning new skills as a group.”
“It gives so much confidence and positivity, making women in trades part of the ‘norm’. It was great to walk into a training day and not get odd looks for being the only woman,” another added.
Practical knowledge
The attendees were equally appreciative of the practical side of being able to work with the manufacturer of the products. Key takeaways included not only gaining a deeper understanding of how the heating system operates, but also in what order each component works as part of this.
Course participants also welcomed the chance to run through common problems and queries - and how to solve them - feeling it was knowledge they wouldn’t be able to learn elsewhere. “The practical side was so useful as my understanding of each system made more sense when I could see it working,” an attendee said.
Keep an eye out for future, similar training events and the opportunity to get involved.
